About Radiology Reading Services

Question: Why does a radiologist conduct the reading services instead of the referring physician?

Answer: A radiologist is a medical physician who is specially trained in radiology reading. In particular, radiologists are board certified by the American Board of Radiology and will confer accurate medical information to the referring physician.

Question: Why is it important to receive medical interpretations directly from radiologists?

Answer: Radiologists are board-certified medical physicians with expertise in acquiring and interpreting medical images. There are also a number of subspecialties for radiologists which ensures that the radiology reading will be specific to the imaging modality and anatomical structure being examined.

Question: How do radiology reading services facilitate proper diagnosis and treatment?

Answer: A radiologist correlates the findings of medical images with the results of additional tests and examinations, and also confers with the referring physician regarding the findings of the diagnostic report. This process facilitates proper diagnosis, treatment should it be deemed necessary, and coding of the services rendered.
